Climate and temperatures
Bali has a tropical climate with 12 hours of daylight and many sun hours, with a steady temperature of 29-31 degrees Celcius around the year. Sunrise as well as sunset take place, averagely, between 6:15 and 6:45. As soon as the sun has set, night falls quickly.
There are only two seasons in Bali, dry season and rainy season. During the wet season (December-June) humidity is relatively higher than in the dry season. Rain however, never lasts very long in Bali. In general there are heavy showers that last for half an hour to two hours, after which the sun breaks through again. So even during rainy season you will have enough opportunity to work on your tan.
Temperatures vary from pleasantly hot during the day to reasonably cool at night. The close proximity of Rumah Kita to the beach provides for a refreshing sea breeze at night.
Sun in Bali
As the tropical sun is very strong, it is advised to wear a hat or cap to protect your head and neck from sunburn, and to use a sunblock with a high protection factor. Good sunblocks can be bought every-where in Lovina. |

The early hours between 7am and 9am, and in the afternoon from 4pm until sunset are the best hours to work on your tan. In these periods of the day the sun is less strong than around noon, and your tan will be there before you know.
Wear a T-shirt while swimming or snorkelling during daytime. Especially at the beach and in the water, the risk of sunburn is extra high - especially since the refreshing sea breeze will make the sun feel less hot on your skin.
Mosquitos
During the dry season there are relatively more mosquitos than during the wet season. As mosquitos are attracted by light colors and sweet scents, you can, especially after sunset, prevent much of their bites by using a repellent and by wearing darker colored clothes with long sleeves, and by not using too much perfume or after shave lotion.
Vaccinations / Malaria
Generally vaccinations against DTP and Hepatitis-A are recommended, and depending on the duration of your stay, intestinal typhoid.
Bali has not had any malaria occurrences for decennia. If your stay is limited to Bali, there is, according to the WHO (World Health Organisation), no need to take malaria pills. If however you intend to visit other islands, it is advisable to consult the local health department in your home country.
Doctors, chemists and hospitals
In the direct vicinity of Rumah Kita are several chemists with a 24h service which provide western medicines. The Lovina area has also several good, western oriented doctors who will visit patients at their hotel. In the city of Singaraja, 10km from Rumah Kita, are several medium sized hospitals.
Driving yourself in Bali
If you decide to rent a motorbike or car without driver please keep in mind that you need a valid drivers licence in combination with a valid international drivers licence.
Just like in the rest of Indonesia traffic drives on the left hand side; if you have little or no experience with left driving it is recommended to rent a car with driver; this is much safer and it will cost you only a little more than renting a car without driver.
Restaurants, Internet, moneychangers, banks and ATM
In the direct vicinity of "Rumah Kita" you will find a good choice of restaurants and bars (also along the beach!), several fast Internet cafe's, and an ATM machine that accepts most current credit- and bank cards. There are dozens of moneychangers in Lovina, and in Singaraja you will find a number of banks. |
